TMU HR is seeking an experienced and strategic Director, Total Compensation to lead the evolution of the Total Compensation Center of Expertise (TCCoE). Reporting to the Executive Director, Total Rewards and Wellbeing, the Director will develop and implement a holistic Total Compensation strategy, leading projects aligned with the University’s mission, goals, and industry standards. The Director will ensure operational excellence and strategic execution of the university’s compensation and rewards programs, and oversee and optimize day-to-day operations to ensure a solid compensation foundation, robust compensation governance and compliance, and exceptional service delivery for employees and stakeholders across the university.
Responsibilities:
- In partnership with the Executive Director, Total Rewards and Wellbeing, leads the operational development, growth and enhancement of the Total Compensation Center of Expertise, defining its vision, strategy, and operational framework.
- Manages compensation programs including policy and process development, annual performance pay increase processes, internal equity reviews, support for union negotiations and university-wide rewards and recognition programs, among others
- Oversees the development, implementation and delivery of compensation services for unionized and non-union employee groups, including job evaluations, salary analysis and recommendations, and supporting job description preparation.
- Champions equity, diversity and inclusion by integrating these principles into all compensation programs and practices.
- Conducts in-depth compensation analysis, collects market data and manages participation in compensation surveys
- Provides strategic leadership and support for the Total Compensation transformation project
- Provides effective talent management and team leadership, supervising Senior Compensation Specialists, Total Compensation Specialists and Project Leads

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in compensation management.
- Minimum five (5) years of  people management experience.
- Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education.
- Must have a demonstrated track record of success in a complex HR environment, preferably within higher education or the public sector.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation or equivalent
- Deep understanding of compensation principles, best practices, market trends, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to influence and persuade stakeholders on compensation matters.
- Strategic and  critical thinking skills to challenge the status quo and build a best-in-class compensation strategy.
- Strong proficiency in HR analytics and data analysis tools, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights for strategic compensation decision-making.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Advanced proficiency in the use of productivity suites, collaboration platforms, or cloud-based office suites (e.g., Google Suite, Microsoft Office, etc).
